The goal for the Sony Music project was to create a generic Hip Hop and a Cool Jazz CD cover. Although very different genres, both illustrative covers required an associated or familiar look. With that in mind, David designed this CD cover and created the illustration using Adobe Illustrator with multiple layers on top of photographic reference. When the illustration was complete, the photographic reference layers were deleted leaving behind only the illustration. For the Hip Hop design shown here, the text at the top of the CD is comprised of two different modern and easy‐to‐read sans‐serif fonts. The font on the first line is called "Gotham Book" and the second line for the words "Hip Hop" is called "Urban Jungle", which has a casual Urban look particularly with the city skyline silhouetted across the bottom of each letter. Overall, the attractive and high‐contrast design of this CD cover, illustrative effects, format, typography, and warm colours, all successfully serve to compliment this Sony Music CD cover and help it to stand out on the store shelf.
